Cheap home decor - coffee tables and side tables

Do we really need to use coffee tables for coffee tables? I'll tell you a secret - I really, really do not like classic coffee tables, they're huge, they're clumsy, and we collect so much rubbish on, in and around them. Well, here are some alternatives to use as your coffee table. These all could be found objects (so the cost would be 0$), or second hand find.

1. Old drums. Sounds crazy, right? Well, this particular solution for side table made me write this post in the first place. i think it looks just great!

2. Old wine barrels. I know you're used to seeing this stuff in rural ambient taverns and similar spaces, but there are also barrels of  smaller size that could work great in living rooms. You can also find small wine barrels with closed top.

3. Old wooden crates. Here are two examples of this cheap do-it-yourself idea, that's also eco-friendly.

4. Old trunks. You can even keep some things inside the trunk, but make sure it's not something you need often, because it's a bit tiring to remove all the stuff from the top of the trunk every day just to get your pen or something.

5. Natural wood. Logs can be used as coffee table or side table. You can keep them natural, as in the first picture, or paint them to match you design, as seen in second picture.

6. Pile of magazines. Yes, it can not work for everyone, but I thought to share it, just in case someone can pull this out in their home. Old books could be used in similar manner.

7. Timber coffee tables. If you're crafty enough you can make your own timber coffee table for just a  few bucks. They look well in traditional and shabby chic interiors, but also could work in some modern interiors.

8. Old doors. Recycled old doors can make beautiful coffee tables. Just check this out.

9. You can always remake an existing coffee table. And..

10. You can combine few different coffee tables, for example - old trunk and a few logs. That looks nice.

Shabby chic bedrooms

Maybe after browsing through tons of shabby chic bedrooms you found out that it is not so easy to come up with a shabby chic bedroom that isn't too girlie. Here's a list of shabby chic bedrooms I consider to have answered to that problem. In it's essence, shabby chic is romantic and feminine, and so are this rooms, but I think that in these examples it's dosed reasonably.

This bedroom is an example of bohemian *and* crisp shabby chic bedroom. Natural light is so uplifting, and distressed table and cabinet give charm to this bedroom.

I love how dark brown furniture pops up in otherwise white space, just like in this bedroom. It makes it look exotic, fresh and so gorgeous. Maybe a little bit of curtain overdose, but all in all just perfect!



This next (shabby) chic bedroom is a bit girlie, BUT if you try to imagine it without the dress and few other details, I'm sure it could work for guys as well.



I like how simple next room is, it looks so peaceful and calming. Although it's on a shabby side of shabby chic, it's also elegant and romantic.



This vintage inspired bedroom looks so great on its own. It's very easy to change details to add some pops of different colors, because the room already has a well rounded color scheme (map, curtains, wall...).

Traditional home design - Bedrooms

Another word for traditional could be classic. Here I'll list some traditional bedrooms, with clear lines, not overcrowded with details and furniture, with lots of natural light, and elegant design. I also took good care to find bedrooms fit for both genders, so I hope you'll find this list useful.

This simple and cozy blue white bedroom achieved this feel with lots of beautiful details such as fabrics (wool pillows!), books, lamp. Bed has such great lines. Floors are a bit bold choice, but they came up so great!


Next bedroom feels so warm and cozy, but it's still very spacious. Brick wall + carpet + dark wood in contrast to huge windows and white walls make such a harmonious space.


Such serene and elegant space is pulled up with a pale teal color scheme. Details are gorgeous, too.


Window benches are one of my favorite things in home design. Here it's incorporated so well. The whole bedroom is elegant, chic and spacious. Off white and grey color scheme works great for this space.


I would like to change so much in this bedroom - curtains, wallpapers, lamps... . But, I thought I'd share it anyway, mostly to show these gorgeous cabinets! They make this bedroom have somewhat an oriental feel to it.

Although I'm more fan of dark brown pieces in white space, this is absolutely amazing! So simple and natural, really beautiful traditional / primitive / elegant bedroom.

Home decor disaster - Bedroom

Here is one pretty terrible master bedroom. Take a good look. What are the first few ugly things you have spotted?


Was it bad cover, curtains and carpet?
Now try to find few really beautiful things on the pic. OK, at least one. I'd say that this bed frame is really nice.

So, we start our work from here. If we decide to stick with this bed frame, first we have to decide if we leave it as is, or paint it over. I do like the color and the rustic feel, so I decide to leave it as is. Next, we have to decide on a color scheme for the rest of the room. I'd like if the dark brown rustic charm would pop up in new design, so I'm going to do a (off) white color scheme with splashes of dark brown.

First, we need to change that awful afghan with some nice white bedding. Something like this:


Next, change those awful thick curtains with something brisk white and light, and if possible made out of natural fabrics (cotton, flax):


The carpet looks like vomit, so we should change it to. Also, if you have beautiful wooden floors, why not show them of? It's much nicer than covering floor with the carpet from wall to wall. Beige carpet on wooden floors would be great.


Now, take care of the details. Repaint the painting frames to same dark brown as the bed frame. Remove the basket. Add few white throw pillows of same design as the bedding on the armchair.

To complete the rustic and natural look of your bedroom try adding few more characteristic details, such as dark brown rustic chest in the bottom of the bed.
