Small spaces - Kitchens with open top shelves

In few days my partner and me will start adapting a small apartment, just bedroom, bathroom and one bigger room for kitchen, dining and living. When designing interior for small apartments, you really need to take care not to overcrowd it. That's why I decide that our kitchen is going to have open top shelves instead of cabinets. Here are some examples to inspire you.

This kitchen only has the bottom cabinets, and I'm still considering this option, because I like how clear and open it looks. Also, wall is covered with glass instead of tiles. That's also our decision for the kitchen (we'll use simple walls covered with waterproof paint), because we think that any pattern on the wall would make it look smaller.
Here, is a bit more shabby chic kitchen with open top shelves. Look at the lights! I'll have something similar in my new kitchen.
This one is a school example of white shabby chic kitchen. Shelves are miss matched and painted white, on white wooden wall.
Next comes more modern kitchen, a very small kitchen, and open shelves work so great in it. It's tidy, practical and gorgeous!
This is rustic / Scandinavian / shabby style kitchen. Fridge is cleverly hidden behind wooden screen.
In this kitchen top shelf is mostly used for decoration, but it's still very neat and practical kitchen all in all. I love the fun details!
Open shelves are easy to organize, but there's a down side also. You must be tidy all times, the shelves are exposed, and their function is not only storage any more, it's also decorative.

Traditional home design - Kitchens

Traditional kitchens are one of my favorite styles. Here are few elegant classic kitchens, I hope you'll enjoy these kitchen designs.

First kitchen has elements of classic and contemporary design. It's open with lots of useful add-ons that make it very practical. This kitchen has black furniture and white floors, the design is very clear, functional and modern with classic elements.

This is very interesting black furniture with metal border. This kitchen is a mixed style of traditional and industrial chic (which I *love* so much!).

Third kitchen also has black furniture, but it's yet another style. This time it's a cross style of traditional and country style.

This off white kitchen with black counters is mixed style of traditional and shabby chic.

Next comes a pale gray / blue kitchen filled with natural sunlight. I like the open shelves and vintage details.

Such a warm and cozy space is this light filled pale butter-cream / white kitchen. Looks so cheerful.

I adore just about anything in this kitchen - so much open space, natural light, gorgeous ceiling, floor... an, oh my! the bar chairs! I'm in love! :)
(You'll find out on this blog that I really adore white spaces with dark brown highlights.)

Cheap home decor - shabby chic kitchens

I wrote about shabby chic kitchens few days ago, so I thought it would be nice to list few really cheap shabby chic decors for kitchens. You can find many shabby chic decorations in thrift shops or on flea markets.

1. Cute and miss matched tea cups, plates, etc.. They would cost you few bucks, and maybe you even have them on hand. :)

2. Spices, jams, spaghetti... in nice glass jars. Imagine these on some wooden open shelves.

3. Vintage signs as wall decor.

4. Fresh flowers, fruit.

5. Distressed furniture or decor.

6. Wall paint. Choose white or soft pastel colors like beige, pale teal, pale lime green, pale mustard, etc. Grey and distressed black are also fine, if applied to smaller surfaces, like one wall.

Shabby chic and vintage kitchens

Probably the best way to enjoy your tea and cookies would be if it was served in an adorable vintage shabby chic kitchen.

Check this list of great "not your grandma's flower printed" shabby chic kitchens.

Although this is not exactly my favorite type of kitchen, this blue shabby chic / vintage / country style kitchen is a real eye candy.
